Mandar, Modak and the fast changing world

Yesterday I had a chance to have dinner with one of my friends Mandar.

He seems to be a guy who loves to eat.

He mentioned about the modak feast in ganesh festival.

Maharashtrian brahmins have a ritual to cook modak's in ganesh festival.

I have grown up to associate food with indian festivals.

Food is a way for our parents to convey their love and caring for us.

However I feel that in our generation and in future generations this wont be the case.

We are so busy running behind money that we don't have time for cooking ..

Food is something to be get done with and fast ...
So kellogs wheat flakes replaces the wheat roti and oats replaces the delicious upma...

We earn to make money so that we can eat good food.. but somehow our greed for earning becomes so large that we don't have time for cooking good food.

I feel lucky to be part of generation where I received lots of nutrition from my mom

Will our kids get to enjoy home made modak's like mandar did ?

May be they will eat McDonalds burgers on Ganesh ...

  1. With better homes, little more time at hand than our parents, I am positive that our food sanskriti will get back to it's golden days. Rather achieve status other cuisines have gained. You will be delighted to know that Indian cuisine is much popular and gains high respect in US. As citizens of an ancient lineage it's our duty to enjoy our flavors and contribute to make it popular.
